A 67-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday as he sat in a folding chair on a sidewalk that was filled with spectators set to watch a vintage car show. According to the Sacramento Bee, he was reported to be in critical condition, and it appears that one of the cars in the show was the vehicle that caused the injuries. An investigation is underway, and no determinations have yet been made as to the nature of the accident and what led to it.
“A man sitting in a folding chair on the sidewalk at a classic car show was struck and critically injured by one of the vintage cars when it jumped the curb.
The 67-year-old Orange-vale man was reported in critical condition Wednesday, Roseville police say.
The injury occurred about 3 p.m. Tuesday on Vernon Street near Taylor Street when a 65-year-old Citrus Heights man was backing his 1941 Chevrolet pickup into a parking space for the Downtown Tuesday Nights classic car show.
When the pickup went over the curb, it hit the spectator, a friend of the driver, pinning him against a building wall. The injured man was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
There was no indication that alcohol was a factor in the accident.”
While the police have said that alcohol has not been named as a central factor, that does not mean that it has been ruled out. It will likely be some time before any definitive answers are offered. Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, the driver of the vintage vehicle could face civil liability based on the injuries his vehicle caused.
