Driving any vehicle in foggy conditions is a risk that everyone takes from time to time. While visibility is generally compromised, most drivers will take extra precautions with such steps that include slowing down and allowing for extra following distances between their vehicle and any in front of them. However, that does not eliminate such added risks, as one motorcyclist was tragically killed by a pickup truck recently in the fog on Highway 12.
According to the Lodi News:
“A Galt motorcyclist died Sunday on Highway 12 when an oncoming driver veered across the center line in thick fog, according to the California Highway Patrol. The other driver also died.
Eric P. Bell, 29, was traveling west around 5:20 a.m. east of Highway 160 when an oncoming burgundy Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line. The truck hit Bell’s black Yamaha motorcycle head-on, CHP Officer Michael Bradley said.
The force of the crash sent Bell through the windshield into the truck’s cab.”
The driver of the pickup truck was also killed at the scene. Investigators reported that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and the pickup driver was wearing a seat belt. Authorities indicated that there was no indication that alcohol was a factor in the accident. It simply appears that the pickup driver made a mistake that led to two fatalities.
