We posted recently regarding a horrifying fatal Fresno bus accident that left six people dead and dozens of people injured. At the time, police stated that the Greyhound bus that was involved in the accident hit an SUV that was not upright on the highway, but little was known about the condition of the drivers. As is the norm with these accidents, toxicology reports were generated, and now comes word that the driver of the SUV that was hit by the Greyhound was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.

According to police, the driver of the SUV, 18-year-old Sylvia Lopez Garay of Dinuba had a blood alcohol content that was above the legal limit in California. Statements gathered by police indicate that Ms. Garay and that the three women who were in the SUV had spent the evening at a dance party in the Tower District of Fresno before overturning the SUV on the highway. The fatal Fresno bus accident occurred in the northbound lanes on California Highway 99 near McKinley Avenue in Fresno. Six people have been killed and 34 people were injured.

California Traffic Accident Statistics

Once again, we’d like to extend our condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed and express our hopes that those who were injured will be able to recover from the harm they suffered. Overall, 175,000 people are injured in California traffic accidents and more than 3,000 people are killed every year in these situations, and approximately one-third of the fatalities that occur involve alcohol.

California Personal Injury Lawyers

Given the news of the alleged drunk driving that caused this fatal Fresno bus accident, the situation just got much worse for the driver. Not only will she face substantial criminal liability, but any civil claims that are filed against her will be strengthened substantially by this evidence. In California personal injury lawsuits involving car accidents, evidence of driving under the influence indicates negligence immediately.

If you or someone you love has been harmed by a drunk driver, you need the help of California DUI accident lawyers who have been holding those responsible for these bad decisions accountable for many years. Contact Demas & Rosenthal today to schedule a free initial consultation.
