A student of Beitzel Elementary School suffered major injuries on Thursday afternoon while he was run over by a FedEx truck as he was leaving the school.

The truck was in the front of Beitzel Elementary School at around 1:30 keeping the crosswalk blocked.  While the delivery truck  turned left onto westbound Chantal Way,  the 10-year-boy ran onto the crosswalk. He ran directly into the truck and additionally ended up being pulled to the ground, after that was run over by the vehicles back wheels.

Two men were injured Tuesday afternoon when a crane collapsed while work was being performed on the Scandia Screamer, a 165 foot tall amusement ride at the Scandia Fun Center in North Highlands.  The two men, employees of Scandia, were suspended in harnesses and were removing the final bolt that would allow the weight of the arm of the ride to transfer to the crane when the crane collapsed.  One of the workers suffered a broken leg and had his arm pinched between two pieces of metal.  The other worker suffered minor injuries.  Fortunately the incident was witnessed by a passing Sacramento Fire Department truck on its way back to its station.  The firefighters responded quickly and used the truck’s basket to assist the worker with the broken leg to the ground so that he could receive medical attention.

One man died and eight other people were injured in a Napa crash on Monday morning.  A multi-vehicle car accident, involving four cars including a big ring, occurred on State Route 12, west of the Napa-Solano County line. Around 10:35 a.m. a man who was driving a 1997 Ford Escort westbound on the highway crossed over the double yellow lines into the eastbound lane, causing a collision between the Ford and a Mack big-rig. The truck, which was owned by Cal Fire, was hauling a bulldozer estimated to weigh between 30,000 and 40,000 pounds. The impact of the collision sent the big-rig out of control into the westbound shoulder guard rail and Toyota Prius. The Ford was pushed back into the westbound lane, which caused it to collide with the Toyota Sienna. The driver of Toyota van and his six passengers, as well ass the driver of Toyota Prius, were hospitalized with minor injuries. The driver of the truck was uninjured. Unfortunately the driver of Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. The Napa accident remains under investigation.

California Highway Patrol reports that small car and a commercial truck were involved in a fatal accident at around 6 a.m. this morning on Highway 99 near Elverta Road. One person died and two were seriously injured in a hit and run Richmond accident at around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning. The driver of a Yuba Sutter garbage truck died Tuesday in a Marysville accident on Highway 20 after his truck crashed with a big rig.  Yuba City resident Gary Wayne Mathis, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the big rig was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.  The cause of the accident is not known and this Marysville big rig accident remains under investigation.

Three people were killed and one person was seriously injured in a one vehicle Sacramento car accident that occurred Friday morning at the intersection of Sloughhouse Road and Jackson Highway.  According to initial reports, Stephen G. Johnson, the driver of a 2001 Mazda Millennia traveling north on Sloughhouse Road, failed to stop at the intersection with Jackson Highway and crashed into a field.  Mr. Johnson and two passengers, Maurice M. Waters II, 20, and Christian T. Bishop, 18, were ejected from the car and died at the scene.  A third passenger, 24-year-a old Kevin Wardley, of Lincoln, was taken to the U.C. Davis Medical Center in critical condition.  The details of this fatal California accident are still under investigation.

A female passenger died in a Sacramento motorcycle accident on Saturday night. The fatal accident occurred in the intersection of 16th Street and Richards Boulevard. The passenger of a Ford pickup died Tuesday and the driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries as the result of a Sacramento car accident at Auburn Boulevard and College Oak Drive.

A violent collision Saturday morning on West Main Street in Patterson resulted in the tragic deaths of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.  The woman was a passenger in a silver van that collided with a black Mercedes at approximately 6 a.m.  on West Main Street just east of Jennings Road.  Three other passenger in the van, including a young child, suffered major injuries and were transported to area hospitals.

Investigators believe the driver of the Mercedes was driving under the influence of alcohol.  He was trapped in the vehicle briefly but was freed before his vehicle burst into flames.  Authorities have not yet determined if he will face manslaughter charges.
