A student of Beitzel Elementary School suffered major injuries on Thursday afternoon while he was run over by a FedEx truck as he was leaving the school.

The truck was in the front of Beitzel Elementary School at around 1:30 keeping the crosswalk blocked.  While the delivery truck  turned left onto westbound Chantal Way,  the 10-year-boy ran onto the crosswalk. He ran directly into the truck and additionally ended up being pulled to the ground, after that was run over by the vehicles back wheels.

The victim was brought to UC Davis Medical Center having significant injuries, which include a  broken pelvis. Sacramento accident remains under investigation.

The driver of a Yuba Sutter garbage truck died Tuesday in a Marysville accident on Highway 20 after his truck crashed with a big rig.  Yuba City resident Gary Wayne Mathis, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the big rig was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.  The cause of the accident is not known and this Marysville big rig accident remains under investigation.

The passenger of a Ford pickup died Tuesday and the driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries as the result of a Sacramento car accident at Auburn Boulevard and College Oak Drive.

Three people suffered major injuries this morning when the SUV they were driving became disabled in the slow lane on northbound Highway 99 and was hit from behind by a big rig.  The big rig plowed the SUV into a sound wall on the shoulder, crushing the SUV in the process.   Two occupants of the SUV were ejected and a third person was trapped inside.  All three victims of the Highway 99 accident were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

One person died and five were seriously injured Wednesday in a big rig accident on Highway 99 in Modesto.  At approximately 1:50 p.m., a big rig traveling south bound failed to slow for traffic ahead and struck a Nissan Frontier from behind, triggering a five vehicle chain reaction collision.  The male driver of the Nissan Frontier was pronounced dead at the scene.  His female passenger was taken to a local hospital with major injuries. Four people in other vehicles also sustained injuries.

Two people were killed in a Modesto car accident involving a big rig on October 20, 2010. The fatal accident happened on Highway 99, south of North Carpenter Road at around 2 p.m. Early reports indicate the truck jack-knifed and crushed a pickup truck.  The Modesto truck accident remains under investigation although t alcohol and drugs are not believed to be  factor.    It is unknown what may have caused the trucker to lose control of his big-rig.

The drivers of a Sacramento County transit bus and a big rig were seriously injured in a Sacramento auto accident and San Joaquin County auto accident that occurred on State Route 12 near Isleton around 4:40 p.m. on Monday. According to the California Highway Patrol, the big rig was headed west bound at an unknown rate of speed when it encountered traffic, attempted to slow down and jackknifed. Thetransit bus, which was not carrying passengers, was traveling east bound when it collided with the out of control big rig. The driver of the bus was transported by life flight to the U.C. Davis Medical Center and the big rig driver was taken to John Muir hospital in the Bay Area, both with major injuries.

This California auto collision also involved a red Chevy Blazer which swerved and went down an embankment to avoid the collision. Reports indicated that the occupants of the Blazer were not seriously injured.

Four people died Thursday morning in an accident involving two big-rigs on state Highway 12 east of Kirkland Ranch Road, near American Canyon. A tractor trailer big-rig was traveling west bound on the two lane highway behind a Subaru Forester when traffic began to slow to a stop. The big rig rear ended the Subaru and pushed it into the opposing lane of traffic directly in the path of an east bound big-rig.The east bound big-rig struck the car head on and pushed it about 200 feet before coming to a stop. CHP reported that all four occupants of the Subaru were declared dead at the scene. According to the CHP, the Subaru’s driver was 48-year-old Matthew Jay Smith of Ashland, Oregon, his daughter 19-year-old Laura Smith, and his parents, 80-year-old Richard Smith and 74-year-old Sally Smith.

One of the last things parents worry about when dropping their children off at school or a daycare center is that the school itself will be hit by a car or truck. Yet that’s exactly what happened on Folsom Boulevard in Sacramento around 9:30am on February 4, 2010. Shortly after a garbage truck and van collided, the truck went careening into a former gas station that’s been remodeled and converted into a children’s daycare center

Emergency personnel had to cut both the garbage truck and van drivers out of their demolished vehicles before the two could be examined. Although the van was killed, the truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

This horrible tragedy illustrates how dangerous road conditions and potentially inattentive drivers can combine to cause serious injury or damage.
